Highlights of Courtesy Call on Ahmadu Bello University Governing Council and the Management.
On December 5th, members of the Basico Exco, accompanied by Set Coordinators, paid a courtesy call on the Governing Council and Management of Ahmadu Bello University, led by its charismatic Chairman Dr. Suleyman A Ndanusa OON.
The visit was a rare privilege and a great honor. Dr. Ndanusa addressed the Council, expressing gratitude and pride for the School of Basic Studies, Zaria, which served as the entry point into the university for all alumni members. He noted that having achieved great success in various professions and career paths, it was now time for the alumni to give back.
Dr. Ndanusa emphasized the need for collaboration between the alumni and the university in areas of mutual concern. He highlighted some the present EXCO’s key achievements, including the establishment of the BASICO Endowment Fund for Sustainable Development. This fund aims to promote impactful projects that enhance the university’s capacity and contribute to national development.
The courtesy call was a significant step towards strengthening the relationship between the Basico Alumni and Ahmadu Bello University. It marked the beginning of a new era of collaboration and mutual support.
Dr. Suleyman A. Ndanusa briefed the Council on the upcoming Mentorship and Coaching program, set to commence in 2025.
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Ahmadu Bello University Governing Council, Alhaji Mahmud Yayale Ahmed CFR, a proud Basico alumnus himself, expressed gratitude to the members for their noble goals. He appreciated the Chairman and executive members for remembering the university and challenged them to do all they could do, to take ABU back to its days of former glory.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala welcomed the executives and encouraged the alumni to emulate Harvard University’s model, where each alumnus contributes a minimum of $100 annually. He emphasized the need for massive enlightenment and assured the BASICO executives of the university’s readiness to partner with them in development areas. As a Basico alumnus himself, Prof Bala looked forward to a very successful partnership.
Prof. Musa Abdullahi Mahadi, one of the Council members, also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of alumni giving back to their institutions, particularly during challenging times. He highlighted the pressing need for funding, especially in areas such as electricity.
The courtesy call concluded with a tour of the university campus, showcasing its impressive developments. The visit ended on a high note with a photo session and a sumptuous lunch. Ultimately, all parties expressed great satisfaction with the outcome of the meeting.
